Clean My Beauty Routine + Beauty Hacks

Be sure to check out the super simple, sweet infographic on a clean beauty routine! Throw out your lip products, eye liner, mascara if you used it when you were sick. YES, even if you only used it once for a special occasion. Buying mascara again will be a lot easier on your wallet than repeatedly buying antibiotics and missing days of work.

Also, check the canister symbol on your products can make a difference in the quality of your makeup application! 3m, 6m, 9m, 12m, 18m, 24m, 36m all corresponds to when to throw out the product by months. After learning this I find it harder and harder to buy $30+ palettes when they expire in 6 months after opening. Especially if I know I will not use it all in that time frame!! I know it’s super tempting but don’t buy the hype!

Having trouble remembering when your stuff expires? write on the product with a sharpie when you opened it. Alternatively, if you have a rewards card online you can always check there when you purchased your product. Emailed receipts work great for this too. Another great option is to set a reminder x months after you opened a product on your google calendar. It’s always fun having an excuse to buy new makeup anyway.

As much as possible, try not to touch your face! Our hands touch a lot of surfaces like doorknobs, cellphones, coffeeshop touch pads, grocery carts etc. Touching our faces is so subconscious. If you have an urge to touch your face, one of my friends told me to use the back of the hand since it generally touches less surfaces comparatively than finger tips and palms.Ideal-2

For actually cleaning brushes and sponges I absolutely love the smell and feel of Beauty Blender liquid Blendercleanser for cleaning my sponges and brushes. It has been my go to ever since I got it in a package deal with a couple of Beauty Blenders. This stuff is awesome because it is paraben, sulfates and phthalate free. Those are the trio of toxins I am very aware of when looking for beauty products. I would not reuse any other type of cosmetic sponges as Beauty Blenders are made of specialty antimicrobial non latex foam.

When camping or doing multiple people’s makeup in one event, my absolute favorite brush cleaner on the go is The Sephora Collection The Cleanse: Daily Brush cleaner. I love it because it contains no parabens, no sulfates, and no phthalates which are big no-nos in my household since they are so toxic. Check out my Why Parabens, Sulfates and Phthalates Suck! post to learn more about why the are no bueno. A good ingredient this cleaner does contain is Maleluca Oil or better known as Tea Tree Oil. I love tea tree oil because of it’s anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties. A lot of facial cleansers and acne treatments on the market contain tea tree oil for these abilities to reduce bacteria and let good skin shine through.
